Composer, Educator, and occasional pianist, Michael Bies writes music that is often influenced by the visual arts and literature. His chamber music has been performed throughout the United States and in Europe at festivals such as the Brevard Music Festival, Frontwave Festival, Festival Miami, and the Saarburg Festival. Currently he is a visiting professor of music at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts in Winston-Salem, NC and has previously served on the faculties of the University of South Carolina and Palm Beach Atlantic University. At UNCSA he teaches core theory and musicianship courses to high school and undergraduate students as well as upper level undergraduate and graduate theory seminars. He currently holds a studio of piano, guitar, and composition students of all levels in Columbia, SC and has performed contemporary classical music in the Columbia area and in the past in numerous venues around Palm Beach Florida. Bies is currently completing a DMA in Composition at the University of South Carolina.
